Jill and Jeff in New York

Jeff and Jill first met online in early 2001. They chatted for a while, and promised to meet, but Jill left in July to spend two months in Spain. After nearly 2 years, Jill happened to see Jeff online once again and they began chatting again. They met, dated, and when Jill was introduced to Jeff's friends, she knew it must be serious. After 2 years and 4 months of dating, the time was right.

It was Christmas Eve morning, and Jeff came in to wake Jill up at 9:30, even though they didn't have to be to Jill's family until 1:00. Jeff, normally a very patient guy, insisted that Jill open her Christmas presents from him. Jill, being the impatient one, thought that Jeff had only gotten her the vintage blue and gold Sabres jersey that she wanted. She knew this because it was accidentally sent to her address!!
Jill wanted to wait to open presents, but Jeff insisted. Jill sat down on the couch and Jeff sat next to her after gathering three presents for her. The first was the jersey. The second was a big wrapped box and inside was a nice warm ski jacket that Jill wanted. Next, Jeff handed Jill her Christmas stocking. Jill wasn't sure what was inside, and as she reached inside, she discovered a small square present, neatly wrapped. She began to blush, thinking that this might be what she had hoped for. She unwrapped the gift to reveal a ring box. She opened it up, and inside was a lump of coal!! She looked at Jeff, who was now on one knee. He then said, "I'd like to replace it with a real one. Will you marry me?" With tears welling up, Jill said "YES!!"
